The Philippines in the 19th century after 300 years of Spanish colonial rule. Jose Rizal, a doctor and novelist, attempted to reform the country through his novels and education. The Spanish colonial government attempted to thwart his attempts by arresting him. However, instead of quenching the momentum for reform, the flames of reform and resistance by force were kindled throughout the Philippines.

With the execution of Rizal, the fate of the country rested in the hands of one man, Andres Bonifacio, who followed in Rizal's footsteps and sought revolution not through educational reform but through force. Born in Manila Tondo, this young man leads a secret society, the Katipunan, to fight against the Spanish rulers in order to make the Philippines a country that guarantees an equal life without exploitation from any country!
